About the Artist

Sharon Jiskra Brooks
Contemporary Impressionist Artist
I paint with an impressionistic voice that leans toward the contemporary, where color and contrast become the rhythm of my work. Originally from Chicago and now rooted in Indianapolis, I’ve always lived between two worlds—the pulse of city streets and the quiet of rural landscapes—and both find their way onto my canvas.
Art has been part of my life since childhood, shaped early on by my father’s career as a professional photographer. His lens taught me how to see, and painting became my way to translate that vision into something more fluid and expressive. Working primarily in oils and acrylics, I let vibrant hues and bold contrasts guide the viewer toward a particular mood or moment, always balancing the instinct to add with the wisdom of restraint.
My Fine Arts degree from Ball State University and time spent studying in Europe deepened my connection to the traditions of art history, while also giving me the freedom to explore my own direction. Today, I continue that exploration as a member of the Hoosier Salon Artists, the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, and the Society of Experiential Graphic Designers.
For me, painting is about creating a space where memory, feeling, and place converge—an invitation for the viewer to step inside and experience it for themselves
